About Gage bench planes

The Gage Tool Company of Vineland, New Jersey made bench planes on John Gage's self-setting patent, and Stanley bought the operation and continued the line under the Stanley/Gage name with G-prefixed model numbers. Every recorded sale here is a bench plane, from small smoothers like the G4C and G22 to longer fore planes, and early examples pair a cast frame with a wooden body in woods such as applewood. Value follows completeness of the distinctive self-setting iron and lever assembly, clear model markings, an uncracked body or sole, and little pitting; the wood-bottom patent planes and the longer sizes are less common than the small all-metal smoothers.

The 10 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (8), Hyperkitten (1) and Ted Dawson Antique Tools (1), and run from 2021 to 2026; 2 closed in the last twelve months.
