About Belknap
Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing was a Louisville, Kentucky wholesaler that sold tools under its Blue Grass brand, much of it made to order by other American manufacturers. Axes are the most commonly seen Blue Grass edged tools, in both single and double bit patterns like those here. Value rests on whether the original paint and decal survive, since most working examples were used until the finish was gone; restored paint and decal work reads differently from factory finish and should be described as such. Clean stamping, a sound original haft, a full-weight head without heavy grinding, and an accompanying leather sheath all add.
