About E.C. Atkins

E.C. Atkins was an American sawmaker based in Indianapolis, active from the nineteenth century well into the twentieth. The firm built its name on handsaws and circular saws, and its "Silver Steel" blades cover the full range seen here: rip and crosscut panel saws, a brass-back dovetail saw, a keyhole saw, and a short joiner's saw. Value follows the etch, which is easily lost to rust or over-cleaning, along with a crisp medallion, a full-length plate with straight teeth, and an uncracked handle with intact horns and carving. Backed and short saws in complete, unaltered form carry more weight than a worn-down full-size panel saw.
