About James Swan

The James Swan Company of Seymour, Connecticut made edge tools and boring bits from the second half of the 19th century well into the 20th. Socket chisels are the core of the output, running from small firmers up through heavy framing chisels and wide timber framer's slicks, alongside straight and adjustable-handle drawknives and auger bits. Large sizes such as the 3 1/2 inch bevel back slick and 2 inch framing chisels bring more than common 1/4 inch firmers, and value rests on blade length left above the socket, clean unpitted steel, uncracked original handles, and legible stamping.
