About Richardson

Richardson was an American saw maker active in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, with work often marked for hardware sellers such as Chandler & Barber of Boston. The recorded sales are dominated by back saws, and the range extends to panel and rip hand saws in the 22 to 28 inch lengths. Numbered lines such as the No. 5, No. 7 and No. 18, spring steel etch plates, a clear medallion, and an intact nib all support value. Pitting, shortened or kinked plates, cracked handles and missing etches pull an example down, while a sharpened, ready-to-use saw or unused old stock stands above average.
