About Wheeler, Madden & Clemson
Wheeler, Madden & Clemson was an American saw maker based in Middletown, New York, working in the second half of the 19th century. Saws were the core of the output, and the back saws recorded here sit alongside hand saws, a hack saw and the occasional edge tool. Value follows plate length and tooth type, with short dovetail saws and clean carcass saws standing apart from common 14 inch sizes. Crisp etching, a full-width plate with little taper from sharpening, an uncracked handle and a legible medallion all raise an example.
