About Douglass chisels
Douglass was an American edge tool maker based in Massachusetts, working in the nineteenth century and best known for axes and heavy timber tools. Among chisels the name turns up most often on framing chisels and slicks, matching the long socket patterns here in widths from 1 inch up to 2 inch and slicks of 3 and 4 inches. Wide slicks and heavy framing chisels bring more than narrow sash mortise chisels, and value rests on blade length left after sharpening, a sound socket with no cracks, a clear stamp, and an original handle rather than a replacement.
