About Hale Bros. chisels
Hale Bros. was an English edge tool maker, and the surviving work is almost entirely bench chisels. The recorded examples fall into two groups: long thin paring chisels and heavy oval-bolstered mortise chisels of the pig sticker type in sizes like 1/4 and 3/8 inch. Value tracks blade length and how much steel remains above the bevel, since paring chisels lose much of their appeal once shortened by regrinding. Sound original handles, crisp stamping, and clean unpitted faces separate a near mint example from an average user.
The 13 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (11) and Ted Dawson Antique Tools (2), and run from 2021 to 2025.
