About Marples 1 inch chisels
William Marples & Sons of Sheffield, England, was a major edge-tool and joiner's-tool maker from the nineteenth century through the twentieth. Chisels and gouges account for most of the output seen here, alongside marking and mortise gauges, braces, beech bench planes, and brass-backed saws like the tenon and dovetail saws in this group. Rosewood or ebony and brass gauges, the brass-framed Ultimatum-pattern braces, and the cast M-series planes such as the M4 1/2 jumbo smooth sit above plain beech and boxwood work. Crisp stamps, original irons and double irons, uncracked handles, complete fittings, and original boxes all add; rust, chips, and replaced parts subtract.
The 34 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (32) and Ted Dawson Antique Tools (2), and run from 2020 to 2026; 3 closed in the last twelve months. 1 listing for sets, pairs or lots of Marples 1 inch chisels was left out, because a set's price is not one tool's price.
