About Estwing hatchets
Estwing is an American toolmaker based in Rockford, Illinois, known since the early twentieth century for hammers and hatchets forged in one piece from a single bar of steel, with the grip built up on the steel shank. That construction is what the claw hammers, ball peen, hatchets and the Fireside Friend splitting tool here all share. Stacked leather handles bring more than the later molded nylon and vinyl grips, and condition of the leather matters most: loose, rotted or shortened washers hurt. Unused stock, intact paper labels, patent markings and less common weights such as the 8 and 12 ounce heads add value.
