About Fenton & Marsden mortise gauges

Fenton & Marsden were Sheffield edge tool and brace makers working in the nineteenth century. Their name appears on brass-framed ebony Ultimatum-pattern braces, heavy pig sticker mortise chisels, and a patent telescoping mortise gauge. Value follows the form: framed ebony and brass braces sit well above plated beech ones, and gauges marked with the 1847 patent carry a premium. Look for crisp stamps, uncracked ebony, tight brass fittings, and full-length chisel blades.

The 7 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (5) and Jim Bode Tools (2), and run from 2021 to 2026; 2 closed in the last twelve months.
