About Sargent moulding planes

Sargent & Co. was an American hardware manufacturer based in New Haven, Connecticut, and was Stanley's main competitor in metal planes through the late nineteenth and first half of the twentieth century. The 400-series bench planes seen here are the core of that output, alongside block planes, rabbet and combination planes, and contract work sold under the Craftsman name. Early type 1 and type 2 examples, pre-lateral castings, and the Auto-Set models built on Page's 1915 patent stand apart from later production; corrugated soles, crisp markings, full-length irons, complete cutters and fences on the combination planes, and intact japanning all lift an example, while cracks, replaced parts, and pitting pull it down.

The 10 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (9) and Hyperkitten (1), and run from 2020 to 2026; 3 closed in the last twelve months.
