About Tyzack back saws
Tyzack was an English firm of saw makers and tool dealers working out of Sheffield and London through the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Saws account for most of the recorded work here, with brass-backed dovetail, tenon and carcass saws alongside full-size hand saws in named lines such as the Nonpareil No. 154 and Talisman No. 660. Brass backs, crisp etched marks and clean, unshortened plates with full teeth raise value, as does new old stock or near-unused condition. The same name also appears on chisels, card scrapers and rosewood-and-brass levels and gauges, where intact boxwood or ebony infill and undamaged brass matter most.
The 41 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (38), Ted Dawson Antique Tools (2) and Jim Bode Tools (1), and run from 2020 to 2026; 8 closed in the last twelve months. 1 listing for sets, pairs or lots of Tyzack back saws was left out, because a set's price is not one tool's price.
