These are different markets, not a contradiction. Dealers list restored, checked tools and price accordingly; marketplaces carry everything from collector-grade down to parts. Compare within a row, not across the table.

About Henry Taylor gouges
Henry Taylor is a Sheffield, England toolmaker still in production, long associated with edge tools for carvers and pattern makers. Carving gouges are the core of the line, and the listings show that range along with paring chisels, swan neck mortise chisels and crank neck pattern maker's chisels in widths from 1/4 to well over an inch. Value follows sweep and width, with wider blades and the longer paring patterns ahead of common sizes, and the Diamic line noted separately. Unused examples with full length blades, original decals and no regrinding or pitting sit at the top; shortened, chipped or rehandled tools fall well back.
The 16 sales behind these figures come from Hyperkitten (6), Jim Bode Value Guide (6) and Jim Bode Tools (4), and run from 2022 to 2026; 10 closed in the last twelve months. 16 listings for sets, pairs or lots of Henry Taylor gouges were left out, because a set's price is not one tool's price.
