About Simonds hand saws
Simonds was an American saw and steel maker based in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, with roots in the 19th century and a long run producing handsaws, backsaws and files. The recorded sales reflect that: crosscut and rip panel saws in the 18 to 26 inch range alongside brass-back carcass and dovetail saws. Numbered lines such as the No. 4 with its carved wheat handle, the No. 61 and the No. 96 carry more weight than unmarked examples, as do brass backs over steel, intact etches, original medallions and applewood handles free of chips. Heavy pitting, shortened or kinked plates, and replaced handles pull an example down.
The 22 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (17), Hyperkitten (2), Jim Bode Tools (2) and 1 other source, and run from 2020 to 2026; 5 closed in the last twelve months. 1 listing for sets, pairs or lots of Simonds hand saws was left out, because a set's price is not one tool's price.
