About Norris 17 1/2 inch sole infill planes
Norris was a London planemaker active from the 19th century into the mid-20th, and its name is tied to metal-bodied infill planes fitted with a patented screw adjuster for depth and lateral movement. The range runs from small bullnose and rabbet planes such as the No. 8 and No. 25 through smoothers like the No. 13 and A5 up to jointers over 20 inches, with the A prefix marking the adjustable models. Pre-war work, dovetailed steel bodies rather than cast iron, rosewood or ebony infill, an intact original adjuster, and a long unshortened iron all raise value; later post-war examples, replaced irons, cracked or repaired infill, and heavy pitting pull it down.
The 10 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (10), and run from 2021 to 2026; 1 closed in the last twelve months.
