About Sandusky rabbet planes
The Sandusky Tool Company of Sandusky, Ohio, made wooden planes through the second half of the nineteenth century and into the twentieth. Its output covered the full bench and joinery range seen here: beech jointers, coffin smoothers, side beads, coves, sash planes and screw-arm plow planes. Value tracks the model and the wood, with boxwood and rosewood-armed plows ahead of plain beech, and center-wheel plows ahead of screw-arm patterns. Crisp unworn moulding profiles, full-depth boxing, intact arms, nuts and depth stops, a legible maker's stamp, and matching original irons all lift an example; splits at the wedge mortise, worn soles and replaced hardware pull it down.
The 12 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (8) and Ted Dawson Antique Tools (4), and run from 2020 to 2025.
