About Columbian vises

Columbian was an American vise maker based in Cleveland, Ohio, with cast iron bench and machinist vises produced through much of the twentieth century. Bench vises are what the name is attached to, and the heavy-duty swivel-base example here is a typical pattern. Value follows jaw width and overall weight, the presence of an intact swivel base with its lock, clean jaws and a screw that runs without slop, and casting free of welds or cracks at the mounting flange and dynamic jaw.
