About Irwin No. 2 auger bits

Irwin is an American maker long based in Wilmington, Ohio, and its name is tied above all to solid-center auger bits for brace work. The numbered sizing follows sixteenths of an inch, so a No. 20 measures 1 1/4 inches and a No. 24 measures 1 1/2 inches, and the larger sizes turn up less often than the common middle numbers. Unused stock still in the original box, crisp shank stamps, full lead screw threads, and unsharpened spurs and cutting lips raise value, while pitting, shortened twists from repeated filing, and stripped screws pull it down. Expansive bits should retain both cutters and the adjusting screw.
