About Beatty axes
Beatty was an American edge tool maker in Chester, Pennsylvania, working through the nineteenth and into the early twentieth century, and stamps with an 1806 date refer to the firm's claimed founding. The recorded sales are all hewing tools: broad axes, side axes, framing adzes, and a framing slick, which is where this maker's output is most often encountered. Clear stamps, including the cow logo and the dated mark, add value, as does unsharpened new old stock condition with original paint; figured handles such as tiger maple and larger widths on broad axes and slicks help, while pitting, mushroomed polls, and reground or shortened bits hurt.
The 13 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (13), and run from 2020 to 2022.
