About Collins axes

The Collins Company of Collinsville, Connecticut was one of the largest American edge-tool works, turning out axes, hatchets, adzes and machetes from the 19th century into the mid-20th. Chopping tools are the core of the output, and the range here is typical: belt axes, broad axes, an adze, plus struck tools like ball peen and rock hammers. Early Hartford-marked heads and unusual patterns such as tobacco axes and offset broad axes stand apart from common felling heads. Intact paper labels or decals, original sheaths, clear stamps, and unsharpened new-old-stock condition add value, while pitting, mushroomed polls, and heavy regrinding cut it.

The 7 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (6) and Ted Dawson Antique Tools (1), and run from 2021 to 2025; 1 closed in the last twelve months.
