About L.L. Davis 12 inch levels

L.L. Davis worked in Springfield, Massachusetts, and his levels were produced there by the Davis Level & Tool Company in the second half of the 19th century. The name is tied almost entirely to cast iron inclinometer levels, whose ornate pierced and filigreed bodies carry an arc scale and pointer for reading grade, as the mantel clock and filigree examples here show. Condition of the japanning and any gold or bronze trim drives value, along with an intact, readable arc scale and pointer, original paper labels, and the larger 12-inch sizes over short 6- and 7-inch patterns; cracks in the casting, repaint, and missing glass or vials cut worth sharply.

The 8 sales behind these figures come from Jim Bode Value Guide (6) and Ted Dawson Antique Tools (2), and run from 2021 to 2025.
