About Bad Axe Tool Works axes
Bad Axe Tool Works is a current American saw maker based in La Crosse, Wisconsin, founded by Mark Harrell, building backsaws and handsaws to order rather than in batches. The line runs from small dovetail and carcass saws up through sash, tenon and joiner's saws, along with rebuilt vintage handsaw plates such as the D8 thumbhole rip pattern, plus frame saws, kerfing planes and bench hooks. Because these are made to customer specification, value tracks plate length and tooth configuration, back material, and handle wood, with figured walnut, maple or burl bringing more than standard stock. Unused examples still in their wrapping and complete sets hold their value best; a saw needing sharpening or with a chipped horn brings less.
